Celebrating Ceramics

  • This Is No Fantasy 108-110 Gertrude Street Fitzroy, VIC, 3065 Australia (map)

The oldest known ceramic artifact, Venus of Dolní Věstonice is dated 28,000 years before the current era. In 2022, the skill set, architectural knowledge, and artistic creativity used to manipulate clay remains a celebrated art form.

This May, Guest Club invites you to meet the award-winning contemporary maker, Alexandra Standen at a private preview of her solo exhibition Staged. The autumn afternoon is an opportunity to explore Alexandra’s functional and decorative vessels on view at This Is No Fantasy, in the company of the artist and gallery directors. Hear from Alexandra, Dianne Tanzer, and Nicola Stein about this new series of works that explores cultures, environments, and human relationships.

Alexandra Standen is an Australian artist based in Sydney, with graduate and postgraduate degrees from The National Art School and UNSW Art and Design. Alexandra was the winner of the Sidney Myer Award for Ceramics in 2012, and a finalist for the Wynne and Churchie National Emerging Art Prize. She has completed residencies in France, Turkey, Israel, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

This event is hosted by This Is No Fantasy, Fitzroy.
